• What kind of fire extinguisher do I need for my home? ▲
  A multi-purpose fire extinguisher is best for the home. The rating listed on the extinguisher label should be at least: 2A: 10 BC. This type of extinguisher can be used on most common fires in the home. The fire extinguisher label may read ABC.

• Why does a fire engine respond when I call for an ambulance? ▲
  The purpose is to provide first responder basic life support until private EMS arrives.

• Why does the fire department tear open walls, when it seems there is no fire in the room? ▲
  Fire traditionally travels upward, inside wall undetected for quite a long time. Firefighters tear open wall that are suspect to hidden fires. Fires that are left undetected can re-ignite several hours later and cause extensive damage.

• Why does the fire department break windows or cut holes in the roof during a fire? ▲
  As fire burns, it moves upward then outward. Breaking windows and/or cutting holes in the roof (called ventilation) slows the damage by allowing heat and blinding smoke to escape upward from the structure. This action enables firefighters to suppress the fire more efficiently and reduces the amount of damage to the structure.
