PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION
MINUTES

5:00 p.m. August 14, 2007
  1. MEETING

    The meeting was held August 14, 2007 at the City of Nederland D. Bob Henson Office Building, 1903 Atlanta Avenue, Nederland, Texas and was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Chairman C.J. Schexnaider.
    MEMBERS PRESENT: C.J. Schexnaider, Jack Porter, Homer Nagel, Mark Griffin and Mark Byars
    CITY STAFF PRESENT: Rod Hatch, Chief Building Official, and Beth Merren, Inspections Department Secretary
    OTHERS PRESENT: Chad May, Al Whaley, and Danny Whaley

  2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES

    The minutes of the July 16, 2007 meeting were approved as read.

  3. PUBLIC HEARING

    The regular meeting was recessed and a Public Hearing was called at 5:02 p.m. by Chairman C.J. Schexnaider, for the purpose of receiving questions and/or comments regarding the rezoning of a 50' x 140' portion of the property located at 2704 Avenue H, described as Lot 2, Block 2, Hillcrest 2nd Addition from Multi Family to Neighborhood Retail.

    Chad May stated the owner wants to build apartments on the property and the 50' x 140' portion would have to be zoned Neighborhood Retail for this type construction.

    Danny Whaley, 2720 Avenue G, expressed his concern that commercial waste trucks may cause excessive wear and tear on Avenue G. Mr. May stated entry to the property would be from Avenue H.

  4. RECONVENE

    There being no further questions and/or comments the Public Hearing was adjourned and the regular meeting was reconvened at 5:05 p.m. by Chairman C.J. Schexnaider. A motion was made by Jack Porter and seconded by Mark Griffin to recommend to City Council to approve the rezoning of this property from Multi Family to Neighborhood Retail. All voted aye.

  5. COMMUNICATIONS

    There will be a Joint Public Hearing with the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Nederland City Council on August 27, 2007 at 6:00 p.m.

  6. ADJOURN

    There being no other business a motion was made by Homer Nagel and seconded by Mark Griffin to adjourn the meeting at 5:07 p.m. All voted aye.
