The Lock Box Program is a secure emergency access program developed
for property owners and fire departments. When fire breaks out, the
lock box will allow immediate access into buildings and other property
without forced entry damage or delay.
Property owners place entrance keys, access cards, and floor plans in
a high security Lock Box mounted near the main entrance. Each Lock
Box is purchased by the property owner and keyed to a single master key
controlled by the fire department. Each fire engine is equipped with
a small safe to store the master key. With the Lock Box Program there
is no waiting for the property owner to unlock the door in the middle of
the night, and no forcing the door open to gain entry. The Lock Box
Program reduces response time, property damage, and the liability
for lost keys.
The City of Nederland has implemented an Ordinance requiring Lock Box
installation on the construction of all new commercial buildings.
